About Courtney Aviation
COMPANY HISTORY
Started in 1967, as a flight school and charter flying service by Jack Courtney, our company’s tradition of dependable General Aviation services throughout the Western United States continues. Under present ownership since 1984, we have expanded on a tradition of offering thousands of clients a wide range of aviation services. From Yosemite, Death Valley and Sequoia/Kings flight tours to honey moon escapes, to fire detection and suppression missions with the government forestry services, we always strive to live up to our motto: “Big Enough to Deliver, Small Enough to Care.”
OUR PILOTS
Our experienced pilots have been selected both for their mature decision making and judgement skills, and their firsthand knowledge of the Sierra to provide in depth tours. They maintain their certification with frequent recurrent training, and through regular flight tests with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) inspectors and wildfire mountain flying. Each of our pilots have several thousand flying hours in mountainous terrain making them well qualified for flying in the Western US.
FAA AIR CARRIER CERTIFICATE AND PUBLIC SAFETY CARDED
Aircraft are maintained beyond Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Part 135 Air Carrier standards since they also fight wildfires. This is an opportunity to experience the thrill of riding in real wildfire planes complete with state-of-the-art communications technology, thermal infrared cameras and 3-D map creation tools designed for tracking wildfire.
